- The majority of our doors and shutters are mesquite, but we also have pairs in cypress (sabino), pine, parota, cedar, and fir.
- Ninety percent of the doors from Mexico are in sets.
- Doors and shutters from Mexico always swing in and so, for cabinets, can easily be re-hinged.
- Most of the door sets from Mexico are 18-22" wide each door. Sets that total more than 44: wide total are much rarer. Often, the more height the sets have, the more width they also have.
- In general, however, the wider a door gets, the shorter it gets. Thus, a door that is 36" wide is probably 5-5.5: high and therefore, a gate.
- There are very few single doors from Mexico that are 6'8" high or over and that also have more than 22" in width each door. In order to end up with a door that is, say, 36" wide, we would start with a set of doors that is 19" or 20" wide each door (38-40" total width). We would then remove a center stile (2.5-4"), resulting in a single door that would be 25.5-38" wide.
- All of our doors and shutters have been finished with paste wax, to bring out the natural grain of the wood. Should these pieces be used outside, the wax will weather off pretty quickly and they will silver out. If it is desired to keep the waxed look, once the wax has worn off, a water-proofing product can be used and then re-applied as needed.
- In most cases, existing doors can be adapted to fit the height needed by either trimming the doors down or by adding to the top or bottom.
